Our First Magazine Cover

There's an old adage that goes, "Everything happens for a reason." Whether or not that's true all the time, it's certainly would seem to apply in the instance of Symphony North winding up on the cover of ION Indie Magazine.

The short story is that ION's editor, Kiki Plesha, responded to our press release on the release of our debut album, The Bell Ringer, offering to include us with a full page ad, particularly as our record is helping to raise money for the Toys for Tots Literacy Program. Then, after she and I spoke, she offered us the cover. A few days later, she carved out time in her busy schedule to personally write a cover story--Kiki is a skilled journalist who dug in and came up with some thoughtful questions for our interview.

Then, through a series of events, I wound up needing a new publicist, and though I knew Kiki didn't have a spare minute, I asked her anyway if she'd be willing to take us on. After thinking critically about whether she could give the job her typical top-drawer service, she agreed.

So, that's the story of how a press release resulted in a series of events, coupled with a personal tragedy I won't go into here, wherein we wound up partnered with the recipient of that press release--a woman who did far more than fill a role on our team at the 11th hour, but is doing a flat amazing job. In other words, the end of that story is that we couldn't be happier. So, if this wasn't a case of "Everything happens for a reason," then I don't know what else you could use that phrase to describe.

As for ION magazine, it's a labor of love for music lovers. And I couldn't be more proud to be a part of their holiday issue. I mean, beyond getting the cover, and a cover story, this issue has some of my musical heroes. The lineup includes: Charles Daniels (who first taught me to love violin), Willie Nelson, Neil Young, John Mellencamp, Dave Matthews, Slipknot, Volbeat, and on and on.

So, if you have a minute, take a look at this issue. The interview is in-depth and really well done. And the write-up includes a bit about all the people in Symphony North. There are even a couple of the tracks you can stream through the magazine.

Until next time,

Peter
